As lawyers and members of a profession bound by ethical rules, we aspire to use the law to improve social structures and engage in significant work undertaken voluntarily. It is in this spirit that Avant-Garde Lawyers wants to harness the full potential of the law to serve artists and their interests.
To help us better achieve our goal, we have built a network of public interest lawyers committed to the delivery of legal services at no fee or at substantially reduced fees to artists of limited means. With the help of the International Network of Pro Bono Lawyers, AGL can provide high-level legal assistance and access to justice to artists unable to afford it, in the form of legal research and advice, and legal representation.
AGL’s legal services are available for individual artists as well as organizations defending artists. While not our primary focus, AGL also promotes pro bono culture for the benefit of artists and creative endeavors.
We are flexible with our definition of pro bono and allow our partner lawyers and law firms to offer support on their own terms. Individual collaborations may be different, depending on the circumstance of the case. Through our Legal Protection Fund, AGL is often able to cover court fees and other incidental expenses.
