Mariel Merayo is a Costa Rican lawyer with a Master’s in Public International Law from University College London (UCL), awarded with Distinction as a Chevening Scholar. She has worked closely with civil society organizations and human rights defenders—to engage with UN human rights mechanisms, both at a national and an international level.
This class focuses on how civil society actors can effectively engage with UN human rights mechanisms, including Treaty Bodies and Special Procedures. Participants gain tools and resources for conducting advocacy, and ensuring the protection of human rights defenders throughout these processes, particularly in the context of freedom of expression.
