    Expert: Laurence Cuny, Human Rights Lawyer and Expert on the right to freedom of artistic expression.

    Laurence Cuny is a human rights lawyer and researcher specialising in artistic freedom and cultural rights since 2010. She has collaborated with the UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights for the reports on artistic freedom (2013), advertising (2014) and public spaces (2019). In 2018, she also became a member of the UNESCO Expert Facility on the 2005 Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and co-founded International Arts Rights Advisors (IARA).

    This session focuses on UN Special Procedures, Treaty Bodies and UNESCO, exploring the mechanisms that are available for artists, civil society organizations and lawyers to send communications on individual violations or national legislations. It covers the definition of Artistic Freedom, strategic use of UN mechanisms and how to create a Protective Ecosystem for Artistic Freedom beyond the UN.
