Andra Matei is an award-winning lawyer specialised in art law. She has represented artists before national and international courts and is known for developing innovative legal strategies that combine the expertise of lawyers and art professionals to protect artists and the creative process. Before founding Avant-Garde Lawyers, she worked at the European Court of Human Rights, where she reviewed hundreds of cases on the protection of fundamental rights. Alongside her legal practice, she has lectured on human rights litigation, art law, and artistic freedom at institutions such as the Paris Bar School, NYU, and the University of the Arts in Vienna. She is the creator of Art on Trial, a training course for lawyers at the Strasbourg Court, and previously led Speak Truth to Power, which encouraged legal professionals in international courts to reflect on cases from the perspective of plaintiffs. She has received the Pro Bono Prize of the Paris Bar and the title of Lawyer Emeritus of the Quebec Bar, among other distinctions.
