BREAKING NEWS: Mustafa Gamal Released
UPDATE: 27 year old Egyptian web designer Mustafa Gamal was released from detention on 8 July 2022 after spending more than four years in custody in Egypt, in accordance with the decision of the Presidential Pardon Committee. Mustafa has been released following a decree issued by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi to pardon a number of prisoners on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha. AGL appreciates this step taken by the Egyptian government to release Mustafa, who was unlawfully detained for having exercised his fundamental rights and liberties.
On 19 May 2020, AGL had written to the Egyptian President asking for his release on account of the limit of his pre-trial detention. On 1 June 2020, Mustafa received the decision to be released from custody. However, he was re-arrested soon after by the Egyptian authorities. Read more here.
